What is detox soup?

Detox soups are usually cooked with wholesome foods & herbs that help to flash out toxins from our body & nourish our body cells.  Detox soups are low in calorie but high in nutrients. They could be blended or have veggies in small pieces which gives our digestive system little rest from over working.

How this Broccoli Detox soup works

This Broccoli detox soup has broccoli (off course) florets that is a great natural broom for our colon. They help to keep a healthy bowel movement. More or less we all know Broccoli have high fiber, vitamin k, Vitamin C, folic acid, potassium etc. (well that’s why it called super food).  Also Broccoli is a great source of Plant based Protein. One medium stalk of broccoli contains almost 4 grams of protein. And this soup is a great way to consume more broccoli in one meal.

This soup has Spinach and Celery. Both have high fiber and lots of nutrients. They also help to have a healthy gut.

          A hidden Gem in this soup is CHIA seed. I say Hidden because it almost tasteless and don’t have strong smell like flax seed or spirulina. If you don’t say that you put chia seed in this soup no one can find out. Chia seed is a great source of plant based Protein. Only one TBSP of Chia seed has 2 grams of protein. Chia seeds also a natural laxative and has OMEGA-3. If you never try chia seed before, I highly suggest to add this in your diet. Chia seed can be added to both sweet and savory dishes. My most favorite way to eat chia seed is making pudding with granola, yogurt and fresh fruits.

I also add a small amount of potato in this Broccoli detox soup so it can give me more fuller feeling. You can avoid this or avoid any extra bread you thinking to eat with this soup (lol)

Personally I like Cilantro leaves to add with this but for this recipe I keep it out to make this soup more versatile. But you totally have freedom to add.

Ingredients

  • 2 Cup Broccoli florets cut into small pieces
  • 1 Cup Spinach
  • 2.5 Celery stalk 1+ cup
  • 1/4 Cup Chopped Onion
  • 3-4 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 medium/small Potato cut into small pieces
  • 3 Cup Water/broth
  • 1 Tsp oil optional
  • 1 Tbsp Chia Seed
  • 1-2 Green chili
  • Salt to your taste
  • Lemon

Instruction

  1. If you okay with using oil then saute onion & potato in oil first. If you dont want to use oil then put potatoes in 1/2 cup water and let it soft little bit. 

  2. When potatoes getting soft, add rest of the ingredients except Spinach, Lemon & Chia seed.

  3. When broccoli florets soft enough to blend, add spinach & chia seed. after 2 minutes turn off the heat. 

  4. Let it cool little bit before blend it to avoid any unwanted accident. 

  5. Squeeze Lemon juice before serving

  6. Enjoy.
